Montessori Schools

When a young doctor called Maria Montessori first started observing the way children learn, she noticed something extraordinary. By using certain types of equipment, modelled upon materials which the children observed every day in the world around them, a child's cognitive development could be achieved through sensory experiences over which the child had complete control.
Dr Montessori went on to develop crafted materials designed for pupils with differing
levels of expertise, which stimulate learning in a variety of ways. These enable each
child to learn at their own level.
In the Montessori approach to learning, the role of the teacher is not to be the focal
point but the facilitator of a curriculum in which each child has the central role. This
fosters each child's independence and nurtures in the child a clear understanding that the
world around us is a source of learning and fulfilment. This is why children in Montessori
schools rapidly develop the ability to mediate their own learning and gain in
self-confidence and self-reliance.
At Kingston Vale Montessori School, our teachers are trained in the Montessori approach. We structure the use of the special Montessori teaching materials within our broader curriculum to help each child discover their potential.
Our programme is designed to promote the desirable outcomes in each of the six areas of learning Mathematics, Language and Literacy, Creative Development, Physical Development, Personal and Social Development, and Knowledge and Understanding of the World. We also recognise and value our partnership with parents. Each day before and after school we share our knowledge of your child informally, as well as organising formal parent consultation meetings where we discuss your childs achievements and set targets for the future.
Following our Ofsted Inspection we were pleased to receive a favourable report commending our approach and the work we undertake to prepare children for the National Curriculum in the next phase of their education.
