We create an environment rich in print where children can learn about words. We ensure all of the children have access to books by using a range of visual cues and story props. They are read a wide range of books, reading simple texts and writing for a variety of purpose. We introduce a variety of Montessori language material such as the insets of design, sandpaper letters, three letter consonant-vowel- consonant words using the pink boxes and movable alphabet. Then moving on to the blue boxes, green boxes noun cards, verb card, nouns and adjectives game and singular and plural box etc.
This area of learning includes counting, sorting, matching, making patterns and working with numbers, shapes, space and measures.
Mathematical understanding is developed through play, stories, songs, games, the computer and imaginative play. We prepare the child for early mathematics by the use of activities of Practical Life and Sensorial material. We introduced the child to specific Montessori materials which teaches them about quantities, as well as written symbols. Children learn by moving from the known to the unknown and from the concrete to the abstract. They will have the opportunity to work with the number rods, sandpaper numerals, spindle box, cards and counters, sequin boards, short bead stair, addition and subtraction strip boards.
