As we all know, the Coronavirus global pandemic has had a devastating effect on all our lives. We have had loved ones fall ill and sadly some did not recover and were taken away from us far too early.
Businesses have also been affected and are struggling to stay open or have had to close and we have all had to learn new ways of working and learning.
In the 25 years that I have been running Kingston Vale Montessori Nursery School I have never witnessed anything like this and hopefully, we shall never again have to go through this most traumatic of experiences.
At Kingston Vale Montessori Nursery School, rightly or wrongly, we have always worked on a minimal profit basis. Fees that were paid just about covered our operational needs as our thoughts were always about giving every child in our care the best educational start, rather than making as much money as possible.
Unfortunately, this left us vulnerable during the pandemic as surplus cash was minimal.
After the first lockdown was lifted, the school tried to re-open as normal, but parents were understandably unwilling to return their children to the school whilst the pandemic raged on. We therefore did not have enough funds to pay our rent or staff costs and we had to close again.
The Early Years Alliance warned that thousands of nurseries could close up and down the country unless the government provided more financial support to sustain them during the pandemic.
Sadly, this help was not forthcoming from the government so, despite my best efforts, it is with a heavy and sad heart that I must announce that Kingston Vale Montessori Nursery School has had to permanently close.
I would like to thank the staff, past and present, who have all contributed to the success of Kingston Vale Montessori Nursery School, for all their hard work and dedication.
I would like to thank St. John the Baptist church for all the years we have been together and for all their help and support during this terrible time.
Finally, I would like to thank you, the parents.
Helping to prepare these wonderfully curious minds and seeing how the children progress over the years in Kingston Vale and at their next schools has truly been the most rewarding experience and I cannot thank you enough for allowing us to be part of their educational journey.
Whilst I am saddened that I will no longer hear the laughter, see the smiles or be part of your child’s early years, I am sure that they will prosper and succeed wherever they go now and in the future.
I sincerely wish to you all the absolute best for the future and to be safe during these trying times.
With all our love and affection
