Understanding Of The World
In this area the children develop knowledge, skills and understanding that helps them make sense of the world.
The children at KVM will learn about the solar system, volcanoes, the earth and its physical features. They will have the chance to plant bulbs and watch seeds grow. Look at life cycles, animals of the world/ continent/country and many more, that will encourage them to take responsibility for their immediate environment and participate in recycling projects.
We provide a range of materials that encourage exploration, observation and problem solving. These materials include wet and dry sand, compost, clay, bubbles and shaving foam. The children will learn to use the computer, magnifier, scissors, gardening tools, hammers, screwdrivers etc. In the Montessori class the children also join in cooking activities.
Children need to explore in order to find out about their environment as well as people and places that have significance in their lives.
Expressive Arts & Design
This area of learning includes art, music, dance, role play and imaginative play. Being creative enables children to make connections between one area of learning and another, so extending their understanding. The children at KVM sing and use action rhymes daily. They experiment with a variety of instruments act out stories and paint using different textures and mediums.
The children are taught mainly through topic-based activities with a strong emphasis on speaking and listening and early reading, writing and math’s skills. It is important to realise that play underpins the development of learning and teaching for young children. Creative and imagination play activities promote the use of development of language. Each week the children have a music lesson.
